Survivor’s of the Wrath of God Part I

Sermon Title: Survivor’s of the Wrath of God Part I

Sermon Text: Revelation 7:1-8

Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to be encouraged by the faithfulness of God to preserve His people in the Day of Man and in the Day of the Lord.

Sermon Proposition: There are 3 aspects related to the faithfulness of God to preserve Jews in the Day of the Lord.

I.          The introduction of the survivor’s of the wrath of God. V.1

            A.        Notice the intervention of the angels. V.1a

Jeremiah 49:36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds From the four quarters of heaven, And scatter them toward all those winds; There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.

Daniel 7:2 Daniel spoke, saying, "I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea.

Hosea 13:15 Though he is fruitful among his brethren, An east wind shall come; The wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness. Then his spring shall become dry, And his fountain shall be dried up. He shall plunder the treasury of every desirable prize.

            B.        Notice the interruption of the angels. V.1b

2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

            C.        Notice the intermission of the angels. V.1c (Rev. 7:3; 9:4)

“[the] circulation of the atmosphere is a mighty engine, driven by energy from the earth’s rotation. The tremendous powers involved in this operation become especially obvious when they are displayed in the form of great hurricanes and blizzards and tornadoes. These winds of the earth make life possible on earth through the hydrologic cycle, transporting waters inland from the ocean with which to water the earth. Yet the angels – only four of them – had turned off this gigantic engine. II.        The illustration of the survivor’s of the wrath of God. V.2-3

            A.        The significance of the Seal of God. V.2 (Rev. 22:4)

Ezekiel 9:4 and the LORD said to him, "Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it."

            B.        The symbolism of the Seal of God. V.3 (Rev. 14:1, 3)

Genesis 41:42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph's hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.

                        1.         Symbolizes protection

Esther 3:10 So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.

Esther 8:2 So the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman.

                        2.         Symbolizes possession

Habakkuk 3:2 O LORD, I have heard your speech and was afraid; O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.

                        3.         Symbolizes potency
                        4.         Symbolizes power
                        5.         Symbolizes preservation

III.       The identification of the survivor’s of the wrath of God. V.4-8

            A.        The passage says that the 144,000 are converted Jews.

B.        The 144,000 Jewish believers are dedicated for service to the Lord Jesus Christ during the tribulation.

                        1.         Notice that these Jews are virgins. (Rev. 14:4-5; 1 Cor. 7:26-27)

                        2.         Notice they are called servants of God. (Rev. 7:30)

3.         Notice they are redeemed from among men (Jewish men) the first fruits of the Great Tribulation. (Rev. 14:4)

            C.        The 144,000 are part of the prophesied restoration of Israel. (Rom. 11:2; Rom 11:23-26)
