Sermon Title: The Model of Maturity
Sermon Text: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-4
Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to a deeper level of maturity based on their election by God.
Sermon Proposition: Paul provides 4 reasons for his gratitude, of the maturity of the saints.

1. The greeting of gratitude because of maturity. v.1

   • The model of maturity is necessitated by our position. v.1a (1 Peter 5:12; Romans 3:24, 5:15; 2 Timothy 2:16)

   • The model of maturity is necessitated by our provisions. v.1b (Acts 15:40; 2 Corin. 8:1, 7; Galations 2:9)

   
   
   

2. The gift of gratitude because of maturity. v.2
   
   

3. The grounds of gratitude because of maturity. v.3

   • The 1st ground for gratitude is work produced by faith. v.3a (Romans 5:1-5; Galations 5:5-6; 1 Peter 1:21-22; Colossians 1:4-5)

   • The 2nd ground for gratitude is labor promoted by love. v.3b (Eph. 4:16; Hebrews 6:10)

   • The 3rd ground for gratitude is endurance inspired by hope. v.3c (John 6:29; Romans 16:6)

   • The 4th ground for gratitude is reverence for God. v.3d

   
   
   

4. The Genesis of gratitude because of maturity. v.4

   • Election was motivated by God's love. (2 Thess. 2:13; Romans 1:7; Jude 1:1)

   • Election was manifested by God's transformation. (1 Peter 2:17, 5:9)

   • Election was marked by God's New community. (Colossians 3:12; 1 Thess. 1:9, 2:14)
