Sermon Title: The Model Church
Sermon Text: 1 Thessalonians 1:5-10
Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to become an example of Christ in a polytheistic, pluralistic, and pagan world.
Sermon Proposition: Paul provides 4 characteristics of a model church in affliction.

1. The model church is a dynamic church. v.5

   • The leadership proclaims the word. v.5a

   • The leadership proclaims the word with power. v.5b (1 Corin. 2:14, 4:20)

   • The leadership proclaims the word in the Holy Spirit. v.5c (Acts 1:8, Romans 1:16-17)

   • The leadership proclaims the word with full conviction. v.5d (Colossians 1:29)

   • The leadership proclaims the word with character. v.5e

2. The model church is a disciple making church. v.6-7

   • Disciple making involves imitation/modeling. v.6a

   • Imitators of the leader's examples. (1 Corin. 4:15-16; Phil. 3:17, 4:9)

   • Imitators of the matured examples. (3 John 1:11; Hebrews 6:12)

   • Imitators of the Lord's example. (1 Corin. 11:1; Ephesians 5:1)

   • Disciple making involves experiencing joy in affliction. v.6d (Matt. 5:11-12; 1 Peter 1:6, 4:13-14, 16)

3. The model church is a declaration church. v.8

   • The declaration must ring out to everyone. v.8a (Romans 1:16-17; Acts 1:8)

4. The model church is a deliverance church. v.9-10

   • Deliverance from false teachers. v.9a
