Sermon Title: Worship Around the Throne - Part II
Sermon Text: Revelation 4:6-11
Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to reflect the principles of heavenly worship in their daily living.
Sermon Proposition: There are 3 basic principles of heavenly worship found in John's vision.

6 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. 8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:

"Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!"

9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

11 "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created." Revelation 4:6-11 (NKJV)

Introduction:

Worship services in many churches today are like a merry-go-round. You drop a token in the collection box; it's good for a ride. There's music and lots of motion up and down. The ride is carefully timed and seldom varies in length. Lots of good feelings are generated, and it is the one ride you can be sure will never be the least bit threatening or challenging. But though you spend the whole time feeling as if you're moving forward you get off exactly where you got on. - John MacArthur

1. The commentary of heavenly worship. v.5-8a

   • The centrality of worship around the throne. v.5-6a (Job 42:5)

   • The creatures of worship around the throne. v.7-8a (1 Corinthians 14:40)

   • Supremacy

   • Strength

   • Intelligence

   • Swiftness

2. The contents of heavenly worship. v.8b

   • The persistence of worship around the throne.

   • The proclamation of worship around the throne.

   • All the world is to worship God because He is worthy. (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 15:4)

   • All the world is to worship God because He is sovereign. (Psalm 115:3; Matthew 19:26)

   • All the world is to worship God because He is creator. (Psalm 95:6; Matthew 4:10; Revelation 14:7)

3. The consummation of heavenly worship. v.9-11

   • The subjection and service of worship around the throne. (Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Psalm 116:12)

   • The recognition of worship around the throne. (Psalm 96:9)

   • The supremacy of worship around the throne. (Revelation 5:12)
