Sermon Title: Do You Honor God by Your Tithes and Offering?
Sermon Text: Malachi 3:6-12
Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to stop robbing God of His Honor by giving freely of tithes and offering.
Sermon Proposition: There are 5 precepts given in relationship to tithes and offering and God's Honor.
The reason for tithes and offering theft is a low view of God. v.6-7
There is a low view of God's eternal mercy. v.6
There is a low view of God's Word. v.7a
There is a low view of God's sovereignty. v.7b
The rub of tithes and offering theft is the robbery of God. v.8a
The Christian can rob God in his tithes. v.8a The definition of the tithe. The origin of the tithe. (Gen. 14:13-18; Heb. 7:2-4; Gen. 4:6-7; Heb. 11:4) The purpose of the tithe. (Neh. 13:10-14) The place of the tithe. (1 Cor. 16:1-4) The benefit of the tithe. The Christian can rob God in his offerings. v.8b The tithe was mandatory, the offering was voluntary. (Luke 6:38) The tithe was commanded from the receiver, the offering was given from the heart. The tithe gained access to God, the offering determined the level of blessing. The tithe was the key that gave you access to heaven, the offering was a seed you planted to determine what heaven would give you. The offering was never an offering until you had completed the tithe. (2 Cor. 9:5; 2 Cor. 8:24) The result of tithes and offering theft is the cursing from God. v.9 The resolution of tithes and offering theft is the testing of God. v.10a (2 Cor. 9:6-7) The reversal of tithes and offering theft is the abundant blessing from God. v.10b-12 (2 Cor. 9:8-15)
