Sermon Title: The Chosen One's: Salutation
Sermon Text: Ephesians 1:1-2
Sermon Purpose: To call the hearer to live in light of their new identity and bountiful spiritual treasury, found in Christ Jesus.
Sermon Proposition: Paul provides 3 introductory truths in this salutation.
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:1-2 (NKJV)
The Ambassador of the Letter. v.1a
The Ambassador's allegiance is definitive.
The Ambassador's appointment is divine.
The Ambassador's authority is delegated. (Romans 1:1; 1 Corinthians 9:1, 15:8; 1 Timothy 1:13-15)
The audience of the Letter. v.1b
The letter is addressed to the saints in Ephesus.. All believers have been set apart from sin and self-centered living and for God and holy living.
The letter is addressed to the saints everywhere.. (Romans 3:21; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Philippians 3:9)
The aim of the Letter. v.2
To reveal the treasury of Heavenly Grace. v.2a
To reveal the treasury of Heavenly Peace. v.2b
Peace with God - sets forth the believer's spiritual blessing in Christ.
Peace with God - sets forth transformation of the everyday life of the believer.
Conclusion:
Ephesians 1:3 - Realize the spiritual wealth of the believer in Christ
Ephesians 2:8-10 - Realize the spiritual purpose of the believer in Christ
Ephesians 4:1-3 - Realize the spiritual calling of the believer in Christ
Ephesians 6:10 - Realize the spiritual strength of the believer in Christ
